Glucose Monitoring for Non-Diabetics to Achieve Weight Loss & Metabolic Health

Continuous Glucose Monitoring for Non-Diabetics to Achieve Weight Loss & Metabolic Health
Continuous Glucose Monitoring, also called CGM, uses a small medical device attached to the skin to provide 24/7 monitoring of blood sugar (blood glucose). Traditionally used by diabetics, this device is now being used by non-diabetic patients to optimize weight loss and metabolic health. CGMs are self-applied painlessly at home by patients in about five minutes. The sensor then provides the user 24/7 blood glucose data readouts which are transferred to a smartphone app to produce graphing of glucose trends.
The CGM device provides patients continuous blood glucose level feedback, resulting in informed and optimal food choice decisions. Through the use of remote monitoring tools, a physician/nutritionist team (with the patient’s permission) can also review blood glucose levels regularly. This allows for feedback, education, and support to the patient as they pursue their weight loss goals.
By helping to lower blood glucose and facilitating weight loss, CGMs can help reverse many chronic medical conditions. By decreasing visceral fat (fat in the abdominal and buttocks areas) prediabetics can completely reverse their prediabetes. With this lowering of body fat percentage prediabetics and nondiabetics often experience reductions in high blood pressure, high cholesterol, acid reflux (also called GERD), and joint pain. Many patients also achieve improvement in sleeping patterns and reductions in chronic fatigue.
Metabolic MD is a local physician practice specializing in the use of CGMs as part of a comprehensive weight loss and metabolic health program. The Medical Director is Paul Kolodzik, MD, who is board certified in Preventive Medicine. If you have questions, or would like to learn more about this program, please have a look at the Metabolic MD website and/or contact the Metabolic MD staff.

Professional Athletes are Discovering the Rejuvenating Effects that Pilates Offers

Read about Jake Arrietta and how he uses Pilates as a way to redirect his career back to success. “I train with Pilates in the offseason and in-season on a daily basis. Pilates gets my body into a position where I’m activated, I’m loose and I’m ready to go as soon as I step out onto the field. It aids my warm-up process; it gets me much more ready for the day of activity than any other type of warm-up ever has. And the amount of core strength that I’ve built with Pilates and hamstring strength and hip mobility and mobility in my shoulders and my spine — those are all things that directly correlate with what I have to do on the field.

I kind of brought Pilates to the Cubs. I went to Ricketts, Jed, Theo, and I told them this is our way to be innovative. In five to 10 years, every clubhouse in baseball is going to be doing this. I think at first a lot of guys were skeptical. But as time has gone by, the amount of guys that are taking part in either a morning routine of Pilates or an afternoon session is pretty high. I’d say there’s been 15-20 guys that are actively using Pilates. And they are all seeing the added benefit.”  Read more ESPN interview….
